This link leads to a PowerPoint presentation by Dr. Nadine Kaslow on Suicidal Behavior in Children and Adolescents. Dr. Kaslow’s 30-slide presentation includes information on suicidal behavior, prevalence rates of suicidal behavior among American adolescents, risk and protective factors, as well as warning signs. The presentation also addresses what parents can do to prevent suicidal behavior in their children, how parents can help their suicidal children, as well as information on seeking professional help and intervention programs. The presentation concludes with a list of additional resources – including online prevention resources and hotline numbers. However, it is important to note that the hotline numbers provided are U.S.-based and hence not applicable outside of the U.S.
Dr. Kaslow is a professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Emory University School of Medicine and served as the President of the American Psychological Association in 2014.
