connecting with students

Connecting with Students is authored by Dr. Allen N. Mendler, an American school psychologist who specializes in behavior and classroom management. This book was created for teachers to help foster positive and caring individual relationships with each student, in particular with challenging or at-risk students.

The book provides activities, guidelines, and strategies to help teachers develop such nurturing connections with students in hopes of improving school climate and reducing violence in flexible and pragmatic ways. As an example of his approach, here is a post by Dr. Mendler on Edutopia, on classroom management with a focus on connections instead of consequences.
