Well Ahead is an ongoing initiative of the J.W.McConnell Foundation aimed at enhancing student well-being in school communities. In its first year, based on interviews with educators in multiple districts in British Columbia, the Well Ahead website offers practical, low-cost, everyday school and community practices that can make a difference in promoting student well-being, including the conduct of effective Monday morning meetings, wellness Wednesdays, and “2X10”, a strategy for building positive relationships with individual students. Other practices include a mindful pause every day in order to develop appropriate coping strategies, being in nature on a regular basis to learn, explore, and connect, as well as circles to establish school connectedness and talking circles to promote dialogue. As this in an ongoing effort, over the next several years the site aims to share their learning and tools online as well as through a resource page.
